1. Word definition skills: explaining variability

In the project we will elicit word definitions in children aged 8-10, representing a large variation in language skills and exposure to Swedish: children with Swedish as a first or second language, and children with and without language disorder. The word definitions will be analyzed with respect to both form and content. We will assess aspects of the children’s executive functions, referential communication skills and lexical and grammatical skills and will collect information on background factors like caregivers’ education and exposure to Swedish. The aim is to understand how factors within and around the child are associated with word definition skills, which are predictive of school success and literacy.
